Full Rate for Toddlers?
 

Will my 3 year old son be charged a full rate on NCL Spirit, Dawn or Carnival Victory? Will an inside room have space for husband 1yr old and 3yr old? THANKS!

Age for full charge varies by line. But even if he is, as a third person in a cabin, the rate is usually less.

While I have not seen inside cabins on these ships, it is difficult to imagine how this would work. Most inside cabins have 2 beds, sometimes that can be pushed together. So does 3 year old sleep in bed with parents, and you get a crib for 1 year old - that would be very tight accomodations.

Something else to consider is age at which kids can go to kids programs - this also varies by line and rarely includes 1 year olds. Also, kids in diapers, swimmies or anything resembling such are not allowed in pools.

My guess is that they might have a special rate for that age. Many ships have a twin bed set up with one or two pull down beds. I am sure you can get a double with a pulll down. I cannot remember exactly, but our sons were in our room at a rate less than 50% of the full rate.

Carnival has larger than average cabins. I assume you will need a crib set up as well as a third bed?

Some lines charge less for the under two set but not for the over two. There is not one standard rule.

NCL inside cabins are VERY small so beware and check the square footage. Also, check on NCL and Carnival to see if any upgrades are being offered as these two lines have a lot of promos along those lines.

A standard inside cabin will have two lowers and some are equipped with one or two pull down berths as well to accomodate extras.

Your 3 year old will be able to participate in the kids club if potty trained, your one year old will not. Also, no swimmies in the pool, FYI, by CDC rules.

Why not contact the cruise lines and ask. If you do book don't forget to tip the cabin attendant and wait staff for dealing with these kids. Cabins in particular can get pretty messy with little children in them. Many people who cruise with kids seem to think it's ok to stiff the staff on tips because they are "just kids". Kids make additional work, require more towels, bedding, etc. (remember the cabin attendant has to get rid of dirty diapers too).

I am not the actual person planning this trip so I am just waiting for them to tell me which cruise line were going on.
No swim diapers even in the kiddie pools?????? Thats gonna be a bummer with a 1yr old 3yr old and my 2yr old nephew - hopefully they can swim on the excursions at the beaches etc...

Not all ships have kiddie pools; if they do, the rules might be different. I just know that many parents do not know this before signing up and I did not want you to be surprised.

Excursions have age limits so this will also affect your group.

You may want to consider Disney Cruise line..much for family friendly for the very young cruisers.
I think they may have pools for non-potty trained kids.

I find it hard to believe any cruise line would allow children that are not toilet trained in ANY pool. This has to do with health regulations!!
This is a VERY serious issue due to E-coli contamination. E-coli can be life threatening in young children.

The CDC sets the rules, not the cruise lines.

Ecoli is dangerous to everyone, not just kids.

I just checked the Disney website.
They do have a special pool, I believe it just has water jets in it, for the little kids.
They specifically advertise it as a pool for non-potty trained kids. They must wear swim diapers.

I see on the web site is is called a "fountain play area"....so not specifically a pool and they must wear swim diapers.

No swim diapers in any of the pools and most cruise lines enforce this. It is for health reasons.

Most toddlers are charged the third person rate. The cruise ship still has to pay full port charges on a toddler, no discounts which is why kids don't cruise free or at a discount.

You'll have to get a room for four people which will be a little more expensive than a double room.

I have travelled NCL cruises with all 3 of my kids. Under the age of 2, they only charge for port charges. Disney charges full price and port charges for children 2 and under.

We have done the Disney Cruises, and honestly prefer other cruises over Disney...because the kids programs are SMALLER and the staff actually get to know your kids.

As far as I know, NCL is the only cruise line that doesn't charge the full price for 2 and under

I have been on the NCL Dawn and we loved it. 2 other faves on NCL were the Sun and Jewel.

I personally would recommend an outside stateroom...did the inside stateroom (once) and never again. If you get a crib, you should be fine with 1 room (inside or outside stateroom), just make sure the accommodation is for 4 people. (you can see on their websites on the deck floor plans)
