ft.lauderdale to miami, pre-cruise???

Any one have any tips, the fastest and least exspensive way to get from ft. lauderdale airport to the Port of Miami? Am arriving the day before cruise and need any info on this. Also any hotel ideas that are in the area of the Port? I would prefer one that has free transfer to the port the next day when we leave. Have done some research but any input would be helpful. Thanks, lisa

Last year we used Tri-County express at the Ft. L. airport. They are located right outside the baggage claim area, to the right. They have Lincoln Towncars that will bring you anywhere in Miami for about $55/car. If you only have 1-2 people they have a van for $15/pp. We had them take us to the Sheraton by the Port, and the next am got a cab to the port. They have a web-site.

Ft.L.Airport is one of the easiest to get in & out of.Miami is much more crowded and also has long lines.

Avis has a rental location right at the pier in Miami and won't add a drop charge for cars rented in FLL. So if you want a car for the night to go around Miami precruise, that should only be about $50. It was only about 100 yards from our terminal for the Explorer.

In March we flew in the day ahead to Ft. Lauderdale and used Tri-County Express. It was $55 for 4 of us, in a Lincoln Towncar - Taxi's were between $55-$65. We stayed at the Best Western Marina Park Hotel at Bayside Marketplace. It's immediately across the brige from the port. There are no transfers but I believe we paid $7 for the cab. The hotel was recently renovated and the rooms were great. We've always stayed at the Inter-Continental just down a ways but it's about $150 more a night and most of the time we never even got there until dinner time. We never had time enough to enjoy the place and figured it was time to save the money for souvenirs instead. On return we caught a cab outside the terminal and the cost was $60 - it took a little longer as it was during rush hour; The express service does not pick up at the terminal so I believe a taxi is the only option. Have Fun.
