formal evenings on med cruises?
 

Wondering if there are planned "Formal Evenings" on cruises on the mediterranean. We are going on the Emerald ship through thomson cruise lines. Just need to know if these cruises encourage evening wear of just casual wear for evening meals and such.thanks

I have never heard of the line you are going on....is the ship large?

We did our first Med Cruise on Princess- there were 3 formal nites--it was a 12 day cruise ....On the MED, more men wear tuxedos than regular dark suits....

Then we did the Med on WINDSURF-a smaller 4 masted sailing yacht- and you did NOT need any formal wear at all....

For the most part, if you are going on a larger ship, then there are at miniumum, 2 formal nites on a 7 day cruise..and yes, the men do wear more tuxedos on these cruises...the women seem to wear everything fro cocktail pant suits, cocktail dresses to long gowns...everything goes but it is dressy.

it is a 600 ft, 412 crew and 1200 passenger ship, so I think it is a large ship, it is not one of the vessels with sails on them,but it is not a fancy line either, more of a great last minute bargain we couldn't resist. So i am going to assume that there will be a night or two that is formal wear, althoug the tuxedo might be hard to arrange (we are leaving on Friday).

I've found that there is usually 1 formal night on a 7 day cruise; 1-2 semi formal (sport coat and tie) and the other nights are more country club casual. It should say in your cruise documents or call ASAP to find out before you leave. Have fun!

A standard in the larger cruise ships-ie. 600+ passengers-for 7 days- is 2 FORMAL nite....

On 12-14 day cruise, there are 3 FORMAL nites...

This is standard even on Carnival....
But in the Caribbean, you do NOT need a tuxedo..The Med ( on larger ships-US type ships) it is more formal ( a lot of times due to the age of the passengers) and therefore a lot more people wear Tuxedos...BUT it is NOT a pre-requisite...just a heads up...
Men can always get away with a dark suit...Women normally tend to get defintely cocktail- plus type clothes...

My friends went on Thomson Emerald last summer to the med. They found it very relaxed with no official formal nights but you can just dress as you wish. The whole thing was very good value as long as you remember that that what you pay is what you get and that it is geared toward families on a budget.
