Food

I am scheduled for Alaska Cruise in June. My question is, do they have different types of coffee? IE: Latte's, mochas etc. and do they serve sushi anywhere on board? And what type of items can you order from Room service.

Thanks in advance.

Better let us know what ship!! :-)

What line and what ship? Need to know that before we can answer. But, most do serve various coffees and some have special coffee bars. Sushi I do not know as I do not eat it.

On lines like HAL and Celebrity you have to pay extra for the special coffees.
The additional pastries are free.

Oops sorry about that. It is HA Noordam. :-)

There's sushi every day on the lunch buffet.

You can buy specialty coffees in the NY Times Cafe, for something like $2 each, including a pastry. I got cappucino every night after dinner at no add'l charge.

Thank you!!!!

gaylinn- our experience with cruising is that you can pretty much order anything you want from room service...

for instance, when I wanted to eat in my cabin one night and I knew they were serving a specialty dish I liked in the dining room (rack of lamb), I asked for that and they brought it :)

Or if you want a particular breakfast item that isn't listed on the menu, they're usually quite happy to bring it to you anyway.

But of course, this might depend on the cruise line. (We've sailed with Celebrity, RC and Princess.)

We are just back from the Noordam. WHat a beautiful ship!

If you are in a suite, the private lounge has wonderful coffees. If not, there is no extra charge for capuccino with dinner in the main dining room.

There is a extra charge coffee shop in Explorations, the onboard library.

Sushi is served at lunch on the buffet and was decent, of grocery store quality and only cooked items are served. If you are not an afficiando, you should be fine.

We had sushi twice ashore in Alaska and it was superb both times.

We had room service dinner three nights as we loved our cabin and balcony and chose to dine in and watch DVDs. You can order from the full menu at no extra charge and HALs room service is top notch. The food arrives on warming plates and was uniformly delicious!

Thanks everyone, just a week and a half before we leave. I am excited.

Bloom Jun 6th, 2007 05:55 AM

I'm excited for you, Gaylinn. I've gotten tired of cruising, but Alaska is the one cruise I would do again.

Watch for the bald eagles, perched atop the trees like sentinels. I'll never forget the first one I saw, flying right by us on the ship as we docked.

What excursions have you planned? We hiked the trail near Mendelhall Glacier in Juneau. It a was a clear, sunny 80 degree day, and it's one of my all time favourite memories. (I was paranoid about running into bears, so hubby and I chatted loud and sang/whistled the whole time- lol)

Well since I am partially disabled and my mother is 80, I think the hiking is out...LOL So this is the excursions we booked:

Taku Glacier Lodge, Feast & Flight by Floatplane

Sea Life Discovery by Semi-Sub

Totem Bight & Lumberjack show

Oh, very nice! Your excursions sound fun and interesting- I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time.

Bon Voyage

Thanks Bloom!!!

One more question (yeah, right) Has anyone eaten at the Pinnacle Grille? Is it worth the extra $30.00?

Thanks

kfusto Jun 11th, 2007 10:35 AM

The Pinnacle was outstanding on Zuiderdam ( we dined there 6 of 7 nights), and also on Oosterdam (4 of 7). On the Noordam, it was subpar and not worth the money.

Thank you.

Arizona07 Jun 12th, 2007 11:59 AM

We loved the Pinnacle Grill on the Zuiderdam; Noordam & Oosterdam. They were all equally delicious!
