Excursions-Juneau and Ketchikan

We will be cruising in Alaska next month, and I am considering not booking excursions on the ship but booking directly with helicopter tour companies. If anyone has had this experience, could you tell me if they provide transportation to the airfield, or are we on our own with that?

We booked our own helicopter excursion (through Coastal Helicopter)in Juneau, and we were instructed to call from the dock when we disembarked. We did so, and ten minutes later a van arrived and picked us up and took us to the airport for our flight. They do it this way so they are not kept waiting if the ship is a little late, or if you dawdle getting off the ship. Worked out great. We even rented a van later in the day, for our group of 8, and hiked to Ebner Falls, just above the town. (It was a family trip, my dad's name is Herbert Ebner, and we got to see Herbert Glacier and Ebner falls in one day Cool!
