European River Cruise Itineraries and Companies
We are planning to take our first cruise of about 8-10 days and are confused by all the itineraries and cruise lines. Looking for recommendations for both as well as best season to plan it!
Thanks, Arlene |
We very much enjoyed our river cruise along the Rhine & Mosel (Basel to Amsterdam) with Tauck Tours. Stops at quaint villages, small towns, castles, vineyards, countryside, forests and more - what's not to like.
We also did a barge canal trip through Burgundy, France with French Country Waterways - very relaxing trip touring this famous wine region with fabulous meals, premier wines, wonderful cheese and, of coua dinner at a Michelin 3-star restaurant. |
We have also just returned from a river cruise that was southbound, Amsterdam to Basel, on AMAwaterways. It was a most delightful trip. We have been on many ocean cruises, and found the intimacy of a small ship very appealing. The AMA Prima was a lovely ship. The food was not as good as we have experienced on Princess, but acceptable. The best thing was the tours, which we found superior to Princess, and all included in the price. We enjoyed this particular itinerary, which featured Christmas markets, but which would be as nice at other times of the year. In fact, cruising the Rhine Gorge would be more comfortable at a warmer time of year.

Hi Ar,
Budget? River? ((I)) |
Arlene, what do you like to see or do? Is there any places that you really wanted to go? Without that information, kind of hard to make recommendation. And as Ira pit it, how about budget?
