Elegant Cruise Line

My friend and I paid for a trip on Elegant Cruise Line for April 2009. Just before leaving the Cruise Line cancelled and we have received no refund as of May 16, 2009. The trip was the Dalmation Coast.....Croatia. Has anyone else had a similar experience and how did you resolve it? Cruise Line says they have no money, but they have MY MONEY.

Yes, yes, yes - I am fighting with them right now. My trip was to have been the first of April. Supposedly there was a ship "accident". They keep giving myself and my travel agent the "it is being processed" story. Now they won't even return calls or answer my e-mail that I wanted something in writing when I would receive the refund. I did see through searching the net that the Andrea has been taken over by a bank but they are still booking cruises on the Monet as far as I know. They had offered other cruises for replacement of the canceled one but we could not do them and they assured us we could receive a money refund instead. I will let you know how my agent who is with a major company progresses next week.

We were booked on a cruise line that went bankrupt three days before our cruise. We had cruise insurance, and they would have reimbursed us, but they asked us to contact Visa first. We had paid for our cruise on Visa about eight months prior. We wrote to Visa, and within three weeks they had refunded our money.

Unfortunately, the company requires payment by check. This is not altogether unusual but I for sure am never going to do that again. I don't think my insurance is going to cover but have to check that out further.

Thanks to all, especially Louise. My trip was later in April but on Andrea. The person at Elegant that our travel agent was dealing with has left the company!! Now just the run around> They also offered us a later date but we were unable to do it later. Please write again. We are quite worried. Diane

DKS42 - do you feel comfortable giving me your e-mail address? It is o.k. if you don't want to - I will still let you know what I find out as much as a feel o.k. posting.

Does anyone know where I can search on line to find out more about financial trouble of a cruise line ( Elegant Cruise and TOurs). I have not gotten a refund yet for a trip they cancelled almost two months ago. THANKS

Sorry to hear of this problem and I hope you can get it resolved. In the future don't book with anyone who doesn't take a CC. I am sure you know this by now. Another measure to take is to go to www.insuremytrip.com. You can find rates that include bankruptcy by the booking agent or co. Good luck. Larry

Larry, those were great ideas. I will be smarter next time. Diane

You're welcome. We all live and learn. I once nearly learned the hard way. We went to a time share presentation, wrote a check for 3K and supposedly won a free cruise. I looked at the literature and realized what they promised was not at all what they said. Hey, learn to read the fine print. Fortunately the presenation was on Sunday. I put a stop payment on the check Monday and went to their office to protest. He voided the contract but told me I could not get my money back. I still remember the utterly devastred look on his face whne I told him I had put a stop payment on the check. OK I did have a bit of a "I got ya" look on my face. :D. Next week they had clear out of that office. No "free" cruise either. Cheers, Larry :-)

Same here big problem. Has anyone heard of a Class Action suit against them yet. How do we go about starting action?
Help.
Jean

Hello, Jean - there were five of us communicating back and forth after making contact on several forums. I believe all have received their money back from credit card companies. There might be one who is owed $1,000. I finally received a refund of almost $10,000 after five months. In my case, I believe that contacting the attorney general of N.Y. forced payment and I think the person still owed the $1,000 might be going through that process also. Contact the attorney general's office and they will send you a form to fill out. Elegant must comply if they want to stay in business.

Cruise lines can be pretty unscrupulous...we had a huge hassle with Grand Circle a couple years ago...they get terrible press, for the most part, yet keep on truckin...the didn't even answer our complains,,,never again with them. The Windstar and Silversea are better, maybe?
