Egypt & Eastern med Cruise

Doing the12 night Royal Caribbean Cruise to Egypt in the end of October.Wanting to known which shore excursions people have done in Alexandria Egypt, Valletta Malta,Sicily(Palermo), Limassol, Cyprus that were worth every penny you paid. We have some ideas in Alexandria, and Limassol. Wondering if a person can just walk off the cruise ship in Valletta,Malta and walk into the city and see enough without a shore excursion, also in Palermo.
Also has anyone done the "Ancient Corinth & Canal Cruise" in Athens, we did the Acropolis and Plaka and tour of the city last time we were there.

We've stopped in Malta twice on cruises. The first time, we did a self-guided walking tour I compiled from several guidebooks, making stops in museums, churches, etc. From the port, it's about a 20 minute walk (mostly uphill) to get to the area of the city you want to see. We took a cab to save our legs for the sightseeing part of our day.

We have stopped in Palermo and did our thing. You can walk into the city its not far. The traffic is horrendous.
There are plenty of churches and a flea market/general market.

Yes you can walk around in Malta. No problem. We got off and hired a private cab for a tour. If you did this ask him to show you the Jesus tree. There is a tree there whose trunk has a shape like Christ on the cross. Also there is a glass blowing cottage industy as well with some really nice pieces.

Hi Pensionperson,
I am going on a similar cruise with Royal in December, I would love to hear from you when you return to know if any of the cruise line excursions are worth taking. The places my cruise visits are: Athens, Alexandria(Cairo), Rhodes, Limassol, Valletta, & Tunis. This is my first cruise so I would love any suggestions.
Thanks!

Athens was our disembarkation port; we hired Spiros from www.athenstaxi.net to pick us up at the ship, take us on a tour of Athens and drop us at the Plaka to explore on our own.

Rhodes was very easy to tour on our own--another self-guided historical walking tour.

In Tunis, we negotiated with a cab driver when we got off the ship to take us where we wanted to go for the day. Don't miss the wonderful Bardo Museum.
