Dubrovnik vs Split
I am looking at a couple of cruises for next year of the Mediterranean. I definately want to go the Croatia. One goes to Dubrovnik and one to Split. Anyone that went to either or both please let me know what you thought of the stop and what did you have time to see. Also, was it really worth it.

Dubrovnik - hands down.
We were in Croatia last June, although not as part of a cruise. We spent time in both Dubrovnik and Split. Split is a fairly large industrial town. The old town area is nice, and Diocletians Palace (if you go take a guided tour) is very interesting. The outskirts are filled with communist era type housing and is a bit run down. Dubrovnik, on the otherhand, is small and immensely charming. I would take a walk around the city walls. The views are stunning. Avoid doing this in the heat of the day. From there I would go to "Buza" bar. Ask the locals where to go and look for the sign that says "cold drinks". You go through a small door and you are suddenly on the outside of the town walls, sitting on rocks, soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying the spectuclar scenery. Dubrovnik is truly a jewel of a place, so yes it is worth it. You will want to go back. have fun! |
Dubrovnik definitely!!!

I am sold. Dubrovnik definately sounds like what I am looking for. There is also one that stops at Kotor. How is that stop.

I will be going to Dubrovnik June, 2008. Can we explore on our own?
|
Dubrovnik!
|
Of course you can explore on your own. The walled city is small, and there is no reason you can`t explore on your own.

Take Issy's advice. If possible, get
to walled city before all the cruise excursions invade. See the oldest pharmacy & pay a small fee to walk atop the walls for the magnificent view. |
