Dry bag solution for Antarctica
 

I am starting to pack for 5-week journey, including 18 days in Antarctica/Falklands/South Georgia on the Vavilov. I need a waterproof daypack for carrying camera, gloves, etc on the zodiac landings. I don't want to spend a lot because I won't have a need for the bag again. I saw a kayak roll bag with backpack straps. Also read sggestion to put everything into ziplock bags but I am concerned about these getting blown from my grasp. Someone here will have a great suggestion!

Sea to Summit has smaller roll-top dry sacks..The strap around the top is good for slipping you arm thtru to carry.

Mlgb - I had narrowed down my options to two - including the Sea to Summit one! I loved its simplicity. It is missing just one thing - - a water bottle pocket. So I ended up with the Mava Sports Waterproof Dry Bag because it has a water bottle exterior pocket. I can use it as well in the Atacama desert and in Torres del Paine. Waterproof and rustproof. At $25, I am not too concerned about never using it again.

I received follow up info from One Ocean - the best expedition team - telling me they provided 30l drybag for us. So I returned the one I bought and used theirs. I learned that a 20 L bag would have been perfect - it would hold my camera, extra gloves, and a water bottle - without being too clumsy for climbing in and out of the zodiacs every day. A few times I shed the drybag backpack when we made a landing and found a place to stash it away from the penguin guano! If you are on an expedition landing and are not a keen photographer with gobs of equipment, a 20L bag is more than sufficient. I loved Antarctica.
