Dropping off luggage at cruise terminal before embarking to sightsee
Have a Holland America cruise out of Amsterdam and was wondering about dropping off luggage at passenger terminal and then going out to sightsee. We will have been in Amsterdam for 5 days before but there is sooo much to see. Has anyone done this on embarkation day? Did you check in and then leave the ship? We’re you able to just drop off your luggage and then continue on to a museum as we will probably use Uber to get from our hotel to passenger terminal and then possibly to museum. Always trying to look at different options!
Thanks for any input!

Not sure if rules have changed because of Covid but in the past on our cruises once you were checked in there's nothing to stop you from leaving the ship as long as you are back on board by a predetermined time set by the cruise line (usually 30 to 45 minutes prior to scheduled sailing). Why don't you check directly with Customer Service at Holland America, they will be the best ones to give you a specific answer.

You may be able to leave your luggage but not board the ship at that time. We did this with another cruise line. Left the luggage about 10 am with the staff, went walking around town and returned at our scheduled time to board the ship.

I can't speak to Amsterdam specifically but it isn't unusual to do a bag drop before you check in and board. The main risk is that you would be delayed and your luggage could sail without you! Of course keep your meds and passport with you.
