dress for dinner on viking river cruise?

I believe river cruising is more casual than ocean cruising. I don't think there are formal dinner nights - or are there? I assume we will change from our daytime touring clothing, but how do folks dress for dinner? Thanks.

On our cruise with Viking 11 months ago, things were pretty casual. Some got a little dressed up for dinner - jacket, no tie, while others did not wear a jacket. Women were about the same casual to slightly dressy. That is no sequined sweat shirts, but no cocktail dresses either. Dress with reasonable clothes and you will be fine.

For women, slacks or skirt, with nice top; men slacks and a golf, sports or dress shirt. Never saw any jackets on men on two Viking river cruises,Russia and Danube. Same for AMAWaterways.

My husband will be quite happy to leave the jacket at home. I guess it's the kind of clothing I would wear to a nice restaraunt at home. Thanks. I obsess over packing and what to take and always over pack.
