Dress Code Enforced, holland america

I have been on Carnival,NCL,Princess,RCL I have never paid much attention to dress code as I dont frequent the dinning rooms. Therefor shorts, T-shirt are accepted anywhere at all hours. I really dont object but... does Hal actually enforce there evening dress code??

Not so much in the Caribbean as long as you don't try to enter the dining room. I've seen people in shorts in the theater on formal night: Daisy Dukes even.

But HAL is a bit more formal than other cruise lines and people do tend to dress up, so you may be frowned upon.

Depends on what you mean. We have been on HAL in Alaska and twice in the Mediterranean. I usually wore a navy blazer to dinner and sometimes to the entertainment. A lot of people ran out and changed. The concept of strolling about the ship in formal clothes suggested by HAL's brochures a la Great Gatsby doesn't happen. Actually I saw people in the main dining rooms in sports shirts. The worlds changed and the formal wear world is populated by the wannabes at the local opera gala.

Frowned upon? The likelihood of me running into those people ever again are between none and nil. Daisy Dukes it is!

Hi G,

>does Hal actually enforce there evening dress code??

No. If you would like to dine in the MDR on formal nights, a jacket and long trousers would be nice.

I, personally, don't care for shorts in the MDR at dinner.
