Dress...

I am cruizin shortly on the Sapphire Princess. I am having some issues with my wardrobe as of the present moment. As this is my first cruise, Just wondering whether people dress up (and to what extent) when they board the ship. Would a dress/skirt be appropriate???
Thanks,
Cruizin_princess :-)

When boarding people dress very casual and dining is informal. It is expected that you are in your travelling clothes and have not had a chance to unpack. On the cruises I've been on, more people dress in formal wear on on formal nights on Princess than other ships (Royal Carib, Norweigan, Holland Amer).

Thank you for your response,
How casual is very casual? For a male, is very casual shorts or cargo pants?
For a female, is very casual a skirt and top or capri pants?

Casual meaning a pair of khakis and a decent tee of golf shirt. For the women a skirt would jump to "dressy" casual. Slacks would be fine. Basically, you would be out of place looking sloppy, e.g., cut-offs, muscle shirt for guys. Basically the first night dress code is very forgiving.

I always bring a change of clothes in my carry on so I can shower and change before dinner. I could not imagine staying in my travel clothes all day!

Shorts for men and women are fine for boarding. I prefer skirts so stick to those myself.

Hi,

It depends on the cruise line! You would be fine on Princess with a pair of pants and a linen blouse with a pair of sandals. It is a very relaxed atmosphere on the first night. A casual skirt would be fine, capri pants with a dressy sweater and sandals - all good.

I tend to dress warm for traveling because airplanes are cold. I keep my suitcase with me when I board and disembark instead of giving it to the cruise staff. That way, I have a change of clothes when I get settled on the ship.
