Dover Port to Dover Train Station
Does anyone know if a person can walk easily from the cruise ship port to the Dover train station?
Or from Dover Castle to the train station. We are thinking of going directly to the train station or taking a taxi to the castle and then walking to the train station to go to Canterbury. |
Port to train station is walkable, but it is a pretty long walk and, as I recall, uphill a good bit of the way. Walked from a downtown area B&B to the castle, but not from the train station.

boom_boom Thanks - sounds like a taxi is the answer. Was the castle worth a visit? Also, did you go to the White Cliffs Visitor Center - wondered what was there?

Dover cruise terminal is located in what WAS Dover Western Docks rail station, where trans met feries. I was acting station manager there for a month or two in the early 90s. Sadly, cars noiw park where te tracks were.
It's walkable to Dover Priory Station, where trains serve the town. Maybe 15--20 minutes. But with luggage, I'd take a taxi. Dover castle is way up above the own, defnitely take a taxi. |
I have walked between the Western Docks and Priory station on several occasions - if into walking about a mile or so on wide sidewalks do it - you will see how tacky central Dover is!

Pal and Man in Seat 61 - what do you think of Dover Castle and all the White Cliffs Tourist Center? Worth the time to see it?
Thanks for the info. Think we could walk it as we have no luggage. Just a day in port on a cruise. Now I think we will share a taxi so we could be picked up at the dock - want to see Leeds Castle and Canterbury Cathedral. Two places we haven't seen on our trips to the UK. I did read that Dover has not been repaired or money put into the town since World War II. Maybe that is why it is tacky. |
We though the Castle was worth it, but did not go to the White Cliff Tourist Center. The Canterbury Cathedral is an easy walk from the Canterbury train station.
Been to Dover several times and agree it is pretty tacky, didn't see much to interest me other than the Castle and the history of the area. |
boom_boom Thanks - will try to get back to Dover in time to see the castle.
