Dominican Republic Port of Call

Our ship (Constellation 4/12) has just changed from a St. Croix port of call to DR: both Catalina Island and Casa del Campo. Would like any input about this stop.

There is a brand new docking area in La Romana..There is Manati Park, a great little animal park, but please do not swim with the Dolphins. Also, Altas de Chavaron which is a reproduction of a Spanish Village complete with a beautiful ampitheatre. Don't bother taking a tour of Santo Domingo, it's a long bus ride and you really don't get to see much

The only other cruise line using the port maybe Costa..and be a Euopean one..but I'm not sure. Catalina is very popular and C del Campo if you have a golfer with you has one of the foremost famous golf courses.. the Leg of the Dog..what exactly are they offering you at Casa del Campo. I think the port is too new for any feedback.

Our travel documents do not even include shore offerings for the DR...they still have the packages from St. Croix. No doubt you are right; it's still too soon. May try to post another message next week right before we leave to see if we can get comments from the current cruise. We don't have a golfer...we may just get off to do a little beach time and stay on the ship otherwise. I gather with the new port we can just walk off and don't have to tender??

You may not be a golfer Peggi, but do not miss the chance to explore Casa de Campo it is one of the 10 finest resorts in the Caribbean and here is a link for Catalina Island...www.picosearch.com/cgi-bin/ts.pl The Dominican people are very kind and friendly unlike other islands we have been to and tourism is their number one industry now. If you have a chance buy Santo Domingo coffee or the Barlo Rum. I'm quite sure with the new dock you will get a rousing welcome...Dominican style.
