Disney makes some big changes
So I've never been on a Disney cruise and just saw that they are going to disallow smoking on balconies which is fine with me and will have designated smoking areas. They also have decided to allow people entrance to the MDR wearing shorts, even on formal nights. Again having never been on Disney I can't say if this is a big departure or not from their norm. For me this seems a bit of a stretch. I know formal night dress codes on most ships are loosely enforced but shorts?? Seems weird to me. What do you think?

Personally we'd like it if all cruise lines did away with formal nights. We despise dressing up, but do because those are usually the nights when lobster and prime rib are on the menus. Or maybe have formal nights, but allow casual dress. That way everyone is happy. Some passengers love dressing up, and they do look beautiful in their gowns and tuxes. Or have the dressed ups dine in a particular dining room for those nights, and the less dressed up can dine in one of the other dining rooms, and everyone gets the same menu. Probably more info than you wanted.

I was just wondering how weird it would look to be seated in a tux sitting next to someone in cargo shorts.

Hi Larry
Did a Disney cruise with my daughter and they really don't compare with the other lines as far as "formal" Their dining rooms are all themed which appeals to the kids and certainly have an informal atmosphere. They rotate your dining room seating so you experience each theme. I don't think you would feel comfortable in your tux!!! I didn't find the food all that great except for the gourmet dining room. I think its great that there is a cruise line that does cater to families but I will stick to my old favourites. |
Hello T69!!
I was wonder about Disney and formal in terms of how much of a departure this would be as I've never been on them before. So apparently its not a radical shift at all. I would imagine the overall style given that its family oriented is more low key. |
