Cruising with kids

I wanted to take a crusie with my children and wasn't sure how accomidating they are. If anyone has done this and has suggestions as to which cruise and where/when or what they wouldn't do again it would be helpful. I hear disney is the way to go?

Hi Kathy,

Most cruise lines have exellent children's programs. Not necessary to cruise Disney for your first cruise, it is much too expensive (unless you cruise in the fall).

Talk to your travel agent.

Paul

Hi Kathy! Cruising with the kids is the best vacation! We have cruised a dozen times on Royal Carribean Cruise International and their kids program is fantastic! It is my kids favorite way to vacation, because both you and they get a little time for yourselves. The programs on RCCI are very well organized and supervised. How old are your children? RCCI has different programs for different ages, so the programs are age appropriate. Older kids do things like scavenger hunts, little ones do lots of arts and crafts. The teens usually have their own disco night and so forth. There may be more info on RCCI's web site. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, but IMO you can't go wrong with a cruise. Destination is a matter of taste. Depends on where you live and what you like to do. Also, when are you planning on going? Carribean is very popular in the summer. Don't know about Disney, never did their cruise. Good luck!

We have always had a great cruise with RCCL but in Feb. I got a great rate on Celebrity's Galaxy. I was unsure if there would be enough kids for my 14 year old son, particularly sailing out of San Juan. He had a wonderful time. There were plenty of kids, but not so many that it was overwhelming. He found a nice group to hang out with, enjoyed the organized activities and surprisingly said that he had more fun, due to the peer group, than he did on the Voyager. Every cruise is different, even on the same ship.

Agree with Paul.Disney is awfully high and the other ships have lots for kids. Just got back from Carnival, and though that's not my favorite line they were great with the kids. Also, they can move around quite a bit by themselves(depending on their ages) and everybody can "do their own thing".Having a nice sit-down family dinner at the end of the day without having to drive anywhere was a joy- how often can you do that anymore? Read suggestions on this board about ships and check prices online before you book with a travel agency. I always have done better than their prices, sorry Paul! (cause I really like you and feel sorry for agents' plight)

We've cruised Princess and are very happy with teir children's programs. I agree witht he poster to steer away from Disney. Its a bit much for me, especially not being the hugest WD fan.
IMo cruising is the best family vacation.

My son & I cruised Princess and RCCL. We enjoyed the Princess (Grand) the best because of the Personal Choice Dining. We did do 2 formal nights because even though he was only 6, I've always felt it doesn't hurt for him to learn to eat in such a setting. Anyway the kids program was great on both. The dining option was just a real plus for us.

Hope this helps
