Cruising the Baltic in June

I am interested in any dress tips particularly evening excursion in St Petersburg. If you took an excursion to Berlin was it worth the travel time?

Not formal but smart casual like a nice dress for a lady and suit or slacks and jacket for a man. Tie optional I would think.

We did the Baltic in June too. Great time! White nights are amazing.

We did a Princess cruise to the Baltics as our first cruise in 2005. That particular itinerary was attractive to us because my husband had always wanted to see Berlin and Checkpoint Charley. My advice today is that as a daytrip from the ship, it is not worth the time. It was roughly 4 hours to get there and 4 hours back, which left time for a nice lunch and a very short tour. Given the choice now that I know better, you would be better off with a cruise that included an alternate port (say one in Norway) instead of Warnemunde.

It can be a little cool up north, but it just depends what you are accustomed to. We are from Hawaii, so we needed light sweaters in some of the ports. If you are accustomed to cold, then the June weather will not feel cool to you. June is a perfect time to cruise the Baltics in my opinion.

What are you doing on the night excursion? That makes a difference what you wear. If the ship has formal or chic nights (new term on Celebrity) you will see dressy dresses, glittery tops with satin trousers or dress trousers, a few formals on women and everything from sports jackets, to suits to a few dinner jackets and tuxes on the men. Usually this dress code applies just to the main and specialty dining rooms for the evening meal.

Yes What are you going to do in the evening>?

Skip Berlin on this excursion.

We took the excursion to Berlin (about 3 hours each way) and did not regret it. We loved it and hope to return some day. We had 4 or 5 hours there and it was worth it--not an inexpensive excursion.

We skipped Berlin and did a tour of Warnemunde with an independent guide. (dna-tours.de/tours.html).

We had a great time - later talked with a lot of other passengers who had made the trek to Berlin and many said they regretted it, because of the long transport time and that most of the cruise's tour in Berlin was "window time" from a bus.

Loved Berlin. We don't have plans on returning to Germany and really spend a lot of time in Berlin. Thought we saw a lot considering the amount of time we had. With the aid of a bus and a great guide I doubt if we could have seen the same on our own in two days let alone 5 or so hours.

When we went to the Baltic, we decided not to go to Berlin. Train ride back and forth was too long and would only give a few hours in a city with so much to see. Feedback from many was that they were disappointed that there were large crowds in Berlin and did not get to see as much as they would have liked.
We stay in the port of Warnemunde and enjoyed the churches, train, seafood on the beach, etc.... Weather was beautiful when we went in early July.

I think Berlin is best seen on a land vacation.

Just returned from the Princess Baltic cruise. We chose the Berlin excursion, with SPB tours. Do not regret it at all. We had a delightful tour guide, an American ex-pat young lady. She gave us our money's worth in sightseeing. Also had a lovely lunch on an outdoor patio. If you plan to return to Berlin, maybe it would make sense to skip this excursion. However, this is probably our only chance, and we enjoyed it tremendously

Just remember it is a three hour trip there and 3 hour back. We took the train and it was relaxing enough. We managed to see quite a few places and even did some shopping, but it was rushed. It all depends on how long your ship stays in port. There are better option than Berlin but if that's your only chance to see Berlin, go for it.
