Cruising Australia and New Zealand
 

Would anybody know if you should book port or starboard side when leaving from Sydney and going to South NZ ending in Auckland?

fran<BR><BR>Sailing out of Sydney you will see more on the starboard side. If you dock where we did, on the other side of the Coathanger ( Sydney Harbor Bridge), you will sail underneath the bridge as you leave and then out into the Pacific. The opera House and all of Sydney will be on your right or starboard side.<BR><BR>If you're headed to Tasmania from Sydney you will turn south and the starboard side will be facing the land. ( I don't know that you will even see land as the ship is pretty far out in the ocean as it makes its way south ) When you get to New Zealand you will be going in and out of a lot of places and I don't think it will much matter what side you are on. We had a balcony but spent most of our time up top as we entered new areas. <BR><BR>If you sail into Fiordland National Park on the tip of the South Island in New Zealand you want to be up top, on the very front of the ship, to capture the majesty of the fiords. Don't worry though, you'll find yourself moving all over the place as the ship goes in and out of the ports and fiords. We viewed from our balcony, the top deck, the rear of the ship and from the promenade deck.<BR><BR>Have fun.....<BR><BR>

Deborah, We are going on the Star Princess on Dec. 20, 2003.Just gave a deposit. Its a way off but got a great deal.. Too good to pass up. If you have questions just ask.

fran<BR><BR>We did our cruise out of Sydney in December 1999. It was a Millennium Cruise that lasted for 3 weeks, ending up in Auckland. <BR><BR>We flew in a day early and toured Sydney the following day. Coming in a day early is a good idea. After 14 hours in the plane from LA we were whipped. We crashed early at our hotel and then got up the next day refreshed and toured Sydney.<BR><BR>If you have not been on a ship during Christmas and New Year's, you are in for a treat. Christmas time sounds great, never thought about that.Tim, Thanks for your reply. Thats what we intend to do, a day earlier. We were in Australia 4 years ago so dont need to go that early.Ive never been to NZ so thats very exciting.
