Cruises for singles
 

I'm single and interested in going on a cruise by myself. I'm somewhat of a recluse and was wondering if cruises cater to people like me. So for example, I wouldn't want to dine at a table with strangers. Please advise.

I did a bit of research on cruise lines, and Celebrity seems to be the most attractive to me at this point.

I'm a huge fan of Carnival, the atmosphere on board is absolutely fun, so for a single person it would be great to mingle with all the party people there! But it depends on age, I guess, Carnival is for young adults and families, mostly. As to the strangers at the table - you can always dine at the Lido buffet - casual dress code (by default). Carnival is fun! :))

Be aware that some cruise lines require singles to pay the single fare supplement, which can be expensive. I know that NCL offers cabins for single travelers without the supplement rate.

I'm sure that forum can give better specifics.

I went on two cruises by myself. You don't have to share a dining table with other people in the formal dining room. You can request a single table.

Can't speak to Celebrity but have taken a few cruises w/NCL
and they host a single's get together. You do not have to dine w/others altho I usually do so.

The newer NCL ships - Epic & Breakaway & soon the Getaway - offer single studio cabins with their own lounge w/concierge offering refreshments & a board to list if you wish to dine or do activities w/others. Some indicate that the cabins are more expensive than booking a inside single. You can check this out on www.cruisecritic.com as KVR indicated.

This is an interesting reading dedicated to the no single supplement cruises http://www.shipcruise.org/no-single-...single-cabins/ It's a single occupancy cruise rates (the single supplement rates) and it also has some info on cruise lines with single cabins on their cruise ships. It says Carnival have raised considerably their cruise single supplement rates this year, but nevertheless it's good to have their prices also compared to others since even with 200% supplement their prices might be still cheaper. RCL and NCL are considered best lines for cruising single - I don't know about RCL, but the Norwegian line is best known for its solo cabins - and plenty of those on the newest ships. NCL Epic for example has 128 single rooms.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the "single rich available" luggage tag on the photo there :)

If you want dine alone, pick a cruise line that offers any time dining (example: Princess) make reservation for one and indicated that you wanted to dine alone. They have many small tables in their any time dining room. If yo uahev a balcony, order room service. They will serve you full dinner on your balcony.

If you are a "recluse", you would not enjoy the Carnival party atmosphere. Some cruise line offers adults area (Princess call them "Santuary") where you would be left alone.

Most ships offer single meet and greet but if you just want some quiet time, you may want to look at cruise lines catering to the older age group, or smaller boats.
