Cruise w/teenage son

Are there any cruises that cater to families with teenagers. We live near NYC and would like to take a cruise next summer (our first). Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Depends on age of teenager. Many teen programs are 13-17, so if your son is 18 or 19, that leaves them in limbo - too old for teen programs and out of place at many adult activities (we just returned from cruise with 13 and 18 year olds). Fortunately, our 18 year old son was content to relax, eat, etc - because there was not much going on for him.

The best choice (but also the most expensive) would be the Royal Caribbean Voyager of the Seas. Rock climbing wall, ice skating, roller blading, basketball, huge arcade and much more. Also, the Norwegian Dawn or the Carnival Legend. Both new with a wealth of activies. All of the above sail from NYC or Bayonne, NJ - across the river. I have a teenager and he has been on many cruises, all lines. He would love any of these. Please let me know if you have further questions.
