cruise recommendation for college graduation gift
I would greatly appreciate cruisers help. My son and girlfriend want to take a cruise towards the end of May (following graduation before beginning "career"). We live in Texas. He's interested in a 4-5 or so day cruise. He has asked for my help but we don't take cruises for vacations. I suspect we'll help him pay for it for a graduation gift. He isn't into glamorous dining, doesn't drink, has been to the Bahamas before and loved it. There seems to be a wide range of prices and ports in which to depart. Hoping I've given enough background info, I thank you, in advance, for any insight...

There are cruises out of Texas-will save money on airfare. Check online Carnival, Princess, or RCCL or a travel agent for your options.
Cruises are a popular grad. gift so I would check asap. |
A cruise out of Texas sounds like a good suggestion. Any of these cruise lines would be ok, but at their age they might enjoy Carnival, which tends to cater to a younger crowd.

Carnival would be a very good choice. Not as fancy dining, and a much younger crowd.

Will they both be 21 in May?

Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions. Without thinking this through - no, the girlfriend won't be 21 until October so...cruise is out. As of today, New York is the destination of choice. I truly had no idea you had to be 21 to cruise without parents, I apologize for my naivety. (son is 22) Again, thanks!

On Princess - you only need to be 18. Not sure if that is the experience your son is looking for but I bet the Caribbean Princess would have lots of young people. It is a 7 night cruise. NYC would be fun also :)

Dorkforcemom,
The age requirements have change for RC and X. See below from RCCL website. Can unaccompanied minors cruise? Effective July 1, 2005 guests under the age of 21 must be booked in a stateroom with an adult who is 21 years or older. A parent or legal guardian must accompany guests under the age of 18 and must be booked in the same or adjacent stateroom. Acceptable proof will be required. These restrictions may be waived at our discretion where applicable. So your son and girlfriend are cleared to go. There is a nice ship Rhapsody of the Seas from Galveston, why look for something else and pay $$$ for airfare? |
