Cruise Insurance
I purchased travel insurance through Cruise One. Continental. I called today and they were unable to tell me if my cruise cancellation is covered by the terrorism until I fill out the claim form- the Zenith out of New York on 9/29. Does anyone know? While I do not want to be inimidated by terrorists, I also do not want my family concerned so will cancell regardless but think that it should be covered. If Celebrity would let me postpone or apply the payment to another criuse I would be satified but they won't.

Sorry Mary- you are SOL--I have insurance with TRAVEL EX for a Nov sailing- I asked if there was another act of terrorism, would my cruise be covered.....NO-unless the state dept. put in their announcement that the country we were going to had a terrorist attack--sort of hard to believe for St.Thomas--ALSO they said that a hijacking was covered ONLY IF YOU WERE ON THE PLANE--So, you cannot cancel for terrorism or hijacking unless you meet the above criteria--

Also, they were NOT writing any new policies until after Sept.21==

Talk about a total waste of money--

So....only thing you can get covered is ILLNESS---------and you would need documentation from an MD for that to be paid off....

Your insurance carrier might do otherwise, but mine didn't...ANd I have to do final payment tomorrow! I am going even if I have to drive there!
Dear Andy,

Sorry you misunderstood the policy but insurance is NOT a waste of money. You would be surprised at the number of claims that are paid by insurance companies. Also these small accident and baggage policies are extremely reasonable. If the policies covered everything imaginable they would be mighty expensive.

People also feel safe with their homeowner's policies. It is best to sit down today and take a look at it and if there is something you do not understand talk to your agent.

Paul

TravelGuard covers acts of terrorism.

Also - Princess insurance allows you to cancel for any reason up until sailing date and get 75%/90% in future cruise travel credit if you cancel.

They have two different policies - regular and gold.

Paul- I know I am correct about Travel Ex- as I did talk to the claims dept and they read me the EXACT things I put in my post.

As far as talking about a total waste of money, I meant it for the terrorism/hijacking portion as NO ONE expected anything like this to happen on US soil--all of this was put in after the Achille Lauro Incident in Greece.

Please don't be so condescending and tell me I need to understand my homeowners policy--I do --explicitly.

I am sure when you puchased trip cancellation insurance in the past, wondering if terrorism was going to happen on US soil NEVER entered your mind...as it didn't 99% of the people who are now wondering if their cruises.air are covered--only to find out "NO" unless they used Travel Guard.

Before I contacted Travel Ex , I went onto the cruisediva website and all cruise cxl policies were posted along with MOST of the trip.cxl insur.companies.....

No one was talking about whether the prices were reasonable or expensive--I ALWAYS take out trip cxl insur...this is the 1st time I have ever had to call the insurance company with this type problem before!

Lighten up and please stick to the subject at hand....

Travel Guard DID cover acts of terrorism; until September 11. They will now NOT cover for 12 months. Basically means that if another incident happens on U.S. soil six months from now, you'd have to wait 12 more months from that date for the policy to cover it. BUT..these rules vary depending on what tour company or cruise line you buy the Travel Guard through.
To Andy,

You are the one that stated the insurance was a waste of money, not me.

Of course no one expected terrorism to occur in the U.S. That is why most policies only mention foreign ports.

If you have your baggage lost or delayed or you have a medical emergency would you then say the policy was a total waste of money?

Paul
Paul- you are missing the point--re read my post-- In this instance of terrorism the insurance is worthless==

I am NOT even talking about lost baggage or medical emergencies--

Andy

Go to the Access America Web Site, they are waiving the terrorist exclusion. They should be thoroughly congratulated for this considerate decision during these extremely trying times. They will certainly be my choice for insurance from now on
