Cruise Directors

Does anyone know who the cruise director is on the Spirit?
Paul Therault Jan 23rd, 2003 11:53 PM

Hi Ronn,

I do not remember his name but he did not impress me.

Paul

Chris Jan 24th, 2003 12:34 AM

Classic. The person asked a direct question. Paul doesn't have the answer, so instead of not posting anything he has to render his opinion.

Ronn, have you tried to contact the cruise line directly?

Which Spirit ? There are currently 12 ships that bear the name Spirit.

Ronn Jan 24th, 2003 09:12 AM

Man, Since we are on the Carnival message board I assumed people knew it was the Carnival Spirit which is a fairly new ship.I think they refer to this class of ship as the Spirit class so I guess thats what you meant. Paul, I was just curious if I might remember him from another cruise. No big deal either way.

Ronn
You are not on the Carnival message board. This cruise forum covers questions about any and all cruises.

Boy oh boy......we are testy today, but that ok, we're on the testy message board.

Chris, are you related to Peter?

I only remember the names of cruise directors that impress me. I even spoke to the guy many nights in the 24 hour restaurant. He was fairly entertaining, but young and not as good as others.

Also, cruise directors change like the weather. I cruised the Legend to hear the greatest - John Heald - he was on vacation. His replacement attempted to copy him .... horrible.

When I sailed the Victory a couple of years ago they had the parrot guy. Hope he's gone now.

Happy cruisin'

Paul

Re: ".....the greatest - John Heald - "

*laughing*

We "experienced" the directorial wizardry of John Heald on the Legend's inaugural cruise. We were underwhelmed. His failed attempts at Catskills type humor were second only to his endless announcements over the ship's PA system.

BUT ..

What goes around, comes around ...

Onstage one night, he asked for 3 couples to participate in a game. Only 2 couples volunteered, so he pressed an unrelated pair into service. It happened that the single lady was quite large (but noticeably young, healthy and muscular). John assured her he would do anything she wanted if she would play the game. During the game, he made her (and her size) the brunt of several unfunny jokes.

At the end, he announced he was ready to keep his promise and asked what she'd like him to do. She said she wanted to dance with him. He started a parody of disco dancing with lots of exaggerated facial expressions for the audience. The young lady hesitated briefly, then twirled him out in a jitterbug-type spin. With a judo twist, she flung him to the floor so hard his suspenders popped loose and his pants nearly went to his knees as he tried to get back on his feet.

And a good time was had by all.

John on the Legend -- hilarious "dancing" scene.

We were there, too. Remember, on the cabin TV, they showed the video trip diary over and over? We'd see the game show sequence coming up, stop to watch and laugh. After a few days, the scene was cut and never seen again (onboard ship, at least).

I was on the Spirit April 02. The cruise director was a woman. I don't remember her name. The cruise was to hawaii, I don't know if that makes a differece.
