Crown Princess- anyone else nervous?

We are booked for the Baltics (Aug 4th) on the Crowne Princess. Have just learned about all its problems of late, i.e. ommitting ports, losing electricity, air conditioning and technical/mechanical problems which aborted the June sailing after it left Copenhagen.

Ellie --
We are booked on the same. Yes, we are also nervous. Apparently the same electrical short problem was the cause of both of these recent "problems". Last word from the boards is that it is causing the ship to sail slower for the next 10 days but no more ports cancelled. Touch base with your TA and please do share any info. Hopefully it will be fixed by our time.

Marion in CT

Hi Marion,
Spoke to someone at Princess who told me it wasn't mechanical, but a computer problem affecting the rudder. Hmmm? Anyway we too are keeping our fingers crossed. Would be disappointed to miss any ports or time in ports.I'll let you know if I learn anything else.

Spoke yesterday at length with 4 passengers on the Crown Princess voyage that had the problems. They told us: The problem related to one of the two diesel engine's control system. This control system has a series of circuit cards - evidently, there are a lot of different cards. There isn't an automated diagnostic process designed into this particular engine control circuitry. Princess had to have a technician from the engine manufacturer fly into Copenhagen, and they had to find the faulty control card by individual process of elimination. That's what took the better part of 2 days. Princess did continue on the rest of the cruise - so I think they did cruise for 6 of the 10 days. The rest of the time, the ship was docked in Copenhagen so the passengers could spend time there off the ship. They thought St. Petersburg was fabulous, enjoyed Stockholm & Helsinki.

Princess started out by offering a $500 shipboard credit, which led to a LOT of unhappy passengers. They changed the compensation to 50% of what the passengers paid for their cruises. The passengers we spoke with thought this was more equitable, since there was such a wide variation as to what everyone actually paid for the cruise.
