Credit card for ship expenses, do you have to have credit card to do this?

I read the cruise section of Fodors all the time. I was just curious to know if you have to have a credit card in order to buy drinks, souvenirs or gamble on board ship.

No Stephanie. The cruises I have been on allow you to set up an account with credit card # or cash. I've never heard of anyone being able to use the "sign and sail" card for the casino/Bingo cards anyway. But you can buy drinks, buy in the gift shops, pay for excursions, etc. with the S and S card.

I've been on some that do allow charges from the Casino to the sign/sail card.

But they will be glad to take your cash/travelers checks as a deposit. Just be sure to bring enough!

Hi Stephanie,

Always best to use a charge card or travelers checks when you travel. Too dangerous to bring a lot of cash.

Dana is correct in stating that the casino cage will give you cash to spend anywhere you would like. It is not like a cash advance. It is applied to your sail and sign card and there is no charge. Some cruise lines will give you up to $1,500 a day. Check with the cruise line or your travel agent first to see how much is allowed.

Paul
