Costa Maya , Mexico

We're cruising in April and one of the ports is Costa Maya. Does anyone know anything about this place ?

This is a port built JUST for cruise ships. There is a pool and there is a beach on the right of the pier but it was closed last fall. Snorkling was OK here. But there are lots of shops and vendors. There is a stage and free entertainment. You can get a [email protected] cab ride to the town, Majahual (SP?). All that we saw there was a beach and lots of vendors. Cars are not allowed on the 'road' by beach & vendors. We didn't think the short cab ride or the so called town was worth the $3!
Ivan and David's tour to Chacchoben Ruins is highly reccomended. Go to We definetly will do this, with Ivan & David (!!!) next time there.
There is an open air 'trolly' to take you off the LONG pier, so do use this.

We had a stop there last July. The beach in the town was nice & there are a number of cute little restaurants just across from the beach.

You can get some nice art/craft works in the area around the dock without going to town.

We did the David and Ivan tour last month. I highly recommend it. Very informative and not the huge tours that you find with the cruise ship tours. Go to and check the Costa Maya port reviews. It's a great tour and you won't regret it.
