Costa Maya
We are going on a cruise with RCCL in January, 2010 and one of the stops is Costa Maya. Through RCCL the beach break is $ 40.00 per person, and we have found a local company that is $ 35.00. We are wanting to know if the local company and RCCL take you to the same spot, or to they go to diffrent beaches.
Thanks Tony |
Can't help you re. the local company but we did that "beach break" with RCCL around 4 years ago. I don't know if they're still going to the same beach but we were very disappointed at the time. There was so much grass in the water that channels were cut to get you deep enough to swim - and the snorkeling was very poor. (I think that kind of grass grows when the coral dies). The beach itself wasn't very big either.

We were in Costa Maya this month & September, probably been there 5 or 6 times before. There is a sandy beach right there on the left of the pier. There are free chaises and umbrellas. But getting into the water can be treacherous. You must walk over flat coral that has holes in it and is different heights. The water is wonderful once you get in but there are few fish. We are snorkelers and I feed fish. Usually this draws LOTS of fish. This time they just weren't hungry, didn't care about food. Snorkeling was poor.
But there is also a pool for anyone's use. You can get a cab, was $3 or $5, to nearby Mahjual ( sp!), or if you like to walk it is not far. It was destroyed by a hurricane since we were there last but there is/was basically one dirt road but cars can't use it. There are vendors and a beach. You could get a massage for $25 on the beach but there wasn't mcuh else there. Costa Maya was built as a cruise port. They do have venders but also have very nice stores - Diamond International types. They also have a stage and a musical show they put on. You can take a tour of the ruins also. Ivan & David lead one -they were born right at the ruins so know it well. We might do this next time there. |
Thanks for the information. I found out from RCCL that the beach break goes to Uvera beach. Have you ever been there?
|
Oh, it's for me too! We'll be there on Norwegian in January 2010.
|
No, haven't heard of Uvera Beach. What's there that makes it worth paying to get there? See if you can find out about it on google and let us know. We're doing more western than we used to so will be going back to Costa Maya on some cruise I'm sure.

Looked up my RCCL paper junk from our cruise - @ 4 years ago. Uvera Beach was mentioned in the Costa Maya daily guide - couldn't tell if it was the "beach-break" destination we went on or the area at the port. If the former, it's described above. Maybe it's nicer now.

I've been doing some research on a new beach break called Maya Chan Beach in Costa Maya. Looks like a great place to go, they will reserve a spot for you with your own beach private palapa so you don't have to rush and get there before everyone else does.

Hi, I have found a lot of free information about Beach Club in this Official Site of Costa Maya: www.mahahualhotel.com
