Costa Maya

Any ideas on a good shore excursion for Dec in Costa Maya? (We are currently looking at the Chaccobean? Ruins)I will travel with a 12 year old child and my spouse.

Tulum is a good place to go - Mayan ruins right on a beautiful beach. It is also closer to the cruise terminal than Chichen Itza. You could also go snorkeling. There are lots of soft adventure activities in the area, too.

Best Regards,
Julia

Can I get to Tulum from Costa Maya?

Tulum is quite a ways from Costa Maya. Ship's tours there usually are from Cozumel. I would book with Ivan & David to go to the ruins at Chaccobean. Think it was Ivan who literally grew up IN the ruins. Both are VERY knowledgable about these ruins with them will be a lot less $$$ than the ship and probaly a lot fewer people! We've been to Costa Maya a few times but just learned of David & Ivan and will go with them next time there. Know they have a web site but can't rememeber exactly what it is. Anyone else know?

Our family used the David & Ivan tour in Feb. 07. Kids were 6, 8, 10 and enjoyed it just fine. At 12, your child would learn even more and probably like the trip. It was a smaller group than the cruise ship tours. We recommend it.

David and and Ivan to Chaccobean Ruins is, as several people have mentioned, a great trip. Costa Maya is a town created by the cruise industry, at the foot of the docks. You can meet up with David and Ivan right there.

The excursion we took with them (just last month) is one of the best excursions we have ever done. It was total immersion--into both the ancient Mayan culture and the current Mayan culture(yes..they are still there).

Shortly, I will have a full review, with pictures, on my travel blog (http://aiparadise.blogspot.com)
