How much does Princess charge for using the ship's internet service? is it per minute?

35 cents/minute

I paid 50 cents/minute on Princess in '02. Maybe it depends on the ship, or else they lowered the price. I'll find out in August.

Did it cost anything for the initial registration? This happened to me on NCL. I ended up paying over $9.00 to send one SHORt email!!

If going to Alaska- head to the public library in Ketchikan and Juneau. Free internet. :)

katybird, no there was no initial fee on the Coral in April - just 35 cents a minute - you just swiped your cruise card in the reader next to the computer and the clock starts ticking.

Sounds like they have perfected the operation a bit. When I cruised on the Star, you signed in with a time and your name/cabin. When you got done, you signed out. But, if there was a line of people waiting, you might not get to sign out very quickly. That added to your 50cents/minute charge! Yikes! I'm glad they've improved on the process. I like the idea of the key card swiping. That'll record the exact minutes at least.

It does vary per ship - on the Dawn Princess last week, it was .50/minute. On some of the newer ships (Coral, Island, Golden, Star, Diamond), it is .35/minute.

I found the connections to be slow, hence the bill kept creeping higher!

I have just returned from RCCL's Monarch of the Seas and it was 50 cents/minute on board. YIKES!! If only I were as smart as Budget Queen and thought of doing the internet in port.

Most every port city will have a library, Internet Cafe, Schlotzky's, or some other establishment that allows internet access for a lot less than what the ship charges. I'll remember that next time, Budget Queen.
