Any one famialiar with this port and can provide info of transport to and from Rome?

I would suggest you go to the Europe Board and do a search on your question. There have been a number of threads there explaining how to get from the cruise ships to Rome. You might also pick up some interesting info on where to go and what to do in Rome. It's a wonderful city and one of our favorites in Europe.

I know there are train and taxis and private cars-depending on how deep your pockets. Personally, this is not the place to skimp.

I do believe there is a train for transport to Rome. We chose to hire a private taxi when we disembarked. He took us to all the sights and we were on our own time as well. We found it well worth it.

Thanks to posts on the Italy board I took the train from Rome to Civitavecchia. The train cost about 5 Euros; the private car was 135 Euros. It couldn't have been easier to take the train -- but just in case, we had used our Italian/English dictionary and written out our request. The ticket seller wrote out the trach number. The ride was about an hour from Rome's Termini station. (We took a taxi from our hotel to Termini.) When you arrive in Civitavecchia you can take a taxi or a shuttle bus for the short ride to the ship.

BUT . . . if you've got lots of luggage it may not be worth it to you to drag it on the train. I travel light (yes, a 22" carry-on on wheels and a duffle bag -- even for an 11-night cruise) so for me, it was definitely worth the more than 100 Euro savings (after taxis). Also, if you can split the fare between four or more people, it might be worth taking a private car. But it certainly was easy to take the train -- and it was a pretty ride. At one point we passed a field of sunflowers with the sea behind them! Enjoy!

Thanks for the info. I did research the Europe board and saw the messages, however we are likely goin to be droppin off a rental, coming in from CT or Florence. It is the return from the port to Rome that I need to figure out. I believe there are no cabs to take to the train station and I do not wish to pull bags 1 km or so to the station. I will look into ships shuttle but the quote I received was for transfers both ways which I do not need.I also have found some limo companies so I will get quotes from them. Did you take the train both ways and if so is it a long and safe walk?

DOCK: If you decide on a limo service I would highly recommend LimoService Rome. We used them for transfer from the airport to our hotel and were very satisfied with their service. I know they do other than transfers from the airport, so perhaps they are just what you are looking for. Address your email to Andrea.
