Chosing best side of ship-Alaska
Sailing from Seward to Vancouver in late May and have a balcony cabin....haven't chosen the cabin yet, wanted to find out the best side of ship/maybe the sunniest side is the best...right?

Hi Marcie,

I presume you have a balcony if you are considering the sun. Remember there is a roof over the balcony therefore you will get the early morning sun on the starboard side and the late afternoon sun on the port side. The most scenic side (mountains) will be seen on the starboard side except for in the bays where the ship will spin.

Paul

What about if you are going to Seward, from Vancouver? Which is best then,, we are booked Port,, or left.

Oh well, I guess we will see a lot of ocean, but we have 6 days after in Alaska.
Cyndi

Oh and we got a great cabin 6131 so we have a huge deck to watch the ocean :)

I too am booked Vancouver/Seward Northbound. I'm confused though by Paul's response. How can the mountains be on the starboard side, if according to his answer to Marci - the ship is Southbound (Seward/Vancouver). Wouldn't ocean be on the starbord, and the mountains on the port??????

It's called the Inside Passage for a reason. There are islands between the boat and the open ocean. They have mountains and trees on them, too. The taller mainland mountains are on the east side of the passage, always. Thus starboard northbound, port southbound. But you'll see stuff off to the west, too, such as sunsets behind the islands.

Oops, I goofed. Thanks Kim for bringing it to my attention. I was reading southbound and thinking and typing northbound.

Paul
