Cheapest way to book a cruise?

What is the best way to book a cruise ? I was told to use Costco Travel or can you book directly thru the cruise line ? We want to book a Windstar Cruise.

Once you've decided on the sailing you want, try

You put in your request, then get competing quotes from various agencies with no obligation to talk to anyone or to book.

I received a number of recommendations from other boards for online booking, then did a search for cruises and got more. I decided on the cruise I wanted, got the quotes from the online sites, then went to a local TA and said, this is what the online sites are offering. Can you match or at least come close? Two days later he called me with a quote that actually was less than even the cheapest quote I'd received online, so I booked with him. The main thing is to know where you want to go, when you want to go, and check out what others are offering for quotes -- shop around and make sure you know what's included (some include taxes and port fees, which can be pretty high, others don't).

In general calling the cruise line directly will result in the highest price out there.
