Century t/a

I am looking for any and all recommendations for cruisewear (formal, etc) for taking our first T/A cruise in October. Thanks.

You are welcome to wear a tuxedo or a formal gown on formal nights, however you are also welcome to wear a shirt and tie or a dress/pantsuit/blouse and skirt for formal nights. You will see all types of dress on formal nights.

Best Regards,
Julia

charbie-

You will see everything.
Your hubs does NOT need a tuxedo but a dark suit will be fine..and you can wear a cocktail dress or silk slax outfit ( no need for long gown).

We have been cruising for 30 years and feel if you are going into the main dining room on formal nite, then a little dressing up looks nice...
BUT you will see everything...MOST men wear either a tux or dark suit and most women wear what I wrote above..It sort of looks silly for the shirt and pants set to be seated with dark suits or tuxes at the same table...it happens all the time but for the most part people do tend to dress up a little more for formal nites...

We have been on the Century twice and you will LOVE it!

Have fun!

Are you on the 10/14 cruise from Barcelona to Ft. Lauderdale?

Celebrity is dressier than other lines and I disagree that a shirt and tie is appropriate for formal nights. Most Celebrity passengers dress as the evening code calls for and it is for the evening, not just dinner.

You will not see the lax attitude that the other mainstream lines have adopted for dress.

hate to disagree but we were on the Celebrity Millenium and saw sport coats with no ties on formal nite in addition to shirt and pants...

Granted, these people looked ridiculously out of place, but it does go on...

I highly recommend cocktail dress and dark suit..you cannot go wrong.

Andy, I am surprised and disappointed at this.

I am a TA and have cruised with X and sell them often. In my personal experience and that of my clients, I know that people have been turned away from the formal dining rooms when not dressed appropriately.

I hope they do not get lax like many of the other lines as this is a big differentiator for Celebrity.

To clarify - here is the exact language from the Celebrity Today newletter. This is from the Millenium:

"Casual Dining Boulevard - The dress code is casual every day. Although in all other areas the dress code of the evening applies. We kindly ask for your cooperation and consideration of your fellow guests" .

It also says on the first day the following: "Following are the required modes of attire for evening dress (after 6:00pm nightly) throughout the ship". (They highlighed the word required)

They then go on to describe Formal, Informal and Casual.
Formal: Gentlemen: Tuxedo, dinner jacket or dark suit and tie. Ladies: A dressy outfit, Formal Gown or Cocktail Dress.

Informal: Gentlemen: Jacket, slacks, No jeans. Ladies: Informal dress or pands and blouse.

Casual: Gentlemen: Sports shirt and slacks. Ladies: Dress, pant suit or sporty outfit.

I think they are quite clear about what they expect for dressing in the evening. Whether passengers respect this or not is their decision.

Kfusto-

Fortunately, I agree with you...

Even tho the "rules" are as you stated, it has truly gotten lax and they did not turn people away in our dining room even if they only had on shirt and pants.

Yes , you are correct-Celebrity is a higher caliber cruise than say, RCCL, even tho same owners...but unfortunately, people are getting more casual in their clothing..

I actually prefer Windsurf to all the "normal " lines since dresss is country club casual...hubs can dress like all the other guys in his Polo shirt and khakis and I can wear nice silk slax and top...and all of us feel in place....
