Celebrity Summit

We are thinking about cruising in Alaska on the new Celebrity Summit. Anyone have any info on this or the cruise line?
Thanks

I sailed on the Infinity in June on the Infinity to Alaska. It was amazing. This ship is beautiful, and well kept. I had a balcony. This is a must. When you visit the Hubbard glacier, people with inside rooms, and outside rooms, are upstairs trying to get a good view, but we sat on our balcony, ordered room service, and relaxed while enjoying the view. The food is out of this world. I thought the entertainment was ok, but I have seen better. The shops are great. I loved the staff.

you will not be disappointed.

Melissa, what side of the ship should I choose to view the glaciers from our balcony, port or starboard? That would be very important. Would hate to book a cabin on the wrong side.
Thanks

Message to Lydia again: We have cruised to Alaska on another ship and personally I would never stay in my cabin even if I had a balcony. We prefer
a lounge area, maybe the Sunrise deck in the Revelations Lounge or outside on a deck at the very front where you can get a panoramic view of the glaciers. I realize however not everyone would prefer this since it can be cool and rainy. Don't forget a raincoat.
Celebrity is certainly one of the top quality cruise lines but also look into Holland America. They probably have the most experience for the Alaskan cruises and next summer will be sending six different ships to this area.

To all those who are planning a trip to Alaska and wish it to be a trip of a lifetime should talk to a travel agent who is an Alaskan expert. One that has traveled there a few times.

One item of importantance is to see glaciers calving. This experience may or may not be sighted on a large ship since the ship can not get close enough to a glacier.

Good chance you will see whales but you will not see a variety of sea birds and eagles. Again the large ships do not cruise in these areas.

If you wish to book a balcony ..... starboard side on Northbound voyages and port side on Southbound voyages.

One should not book a round trip Alaska since you will miss much of Alaska to save a few bucks.

Paul

I have to admit, I really don't know what side I was on. The ship kind of turned a few times though at hubbard glacier, so I think everyone gets a view.

I did not see a whale at all!! I was dissapointed by that.

If you are coming in from the east coast, I will also tell you, go the day before. I live in Atlantic Canada so I am 4 hours ahead of BC. If you are from eastern, that is 3 hours ahead. My flight left at 6am our time, and landed at 10am theirs. We had pleanty of time to make the ship. We had late dining which was at 8pm. That is 12am my time and I had been up since 4am. My first day and a half were spent with jet leg. I wish I had flown in the day before, and then I could have explored Vancouver a little, and not been so tired my first day. Vancouver is awsome, and I do wish I had spent more time there.
For those that are planning to visit Alaska and wish to see whales and wildlife in abundance stay a couple of days in spectacular Seward either before or after your cruise and book a small boat trip (6 hours) through the Kenai Fiords.

Paul
