Celebrity Mercury Buffet
 

Does Mercury offer a buffet for dinner as alternative to formal dining room? Is it more than pizza, hot dogs, french fries?

Not an answer specifically about the Mercury, but I have sailed Celebrity's Constellation. Also have sailed several times on Royal Carribean and Holland America.

All cruises I have been on have offered a buffet if you didn't want to eat in the dining room. All of the buffets had multiple choices of entrees, vegetables and sides just as you would find in a "regular" hotel buffet.

In fact, on the cruises I've been on, there were no offerings like pizza, hot dogs or french fries in the regular buffet. If you wanted those type things, there was a separate counter for them, usually somewhere near the pool.

Thanks for the info. I too have been on numerous cruises and am familiar with the buffets. In the brochure for Celebrity Mercury, they specifically mention breakfast, lunch and midnight. But nothing about dinner. Hence, my question.

We were on the Mercury last September and they in deed had a dinner buffet. The selection is good.

If they offer a brunch in the dinner room, that is the not to be missed event. Usually they do a special brunch on a sea day where they have a special set up. That's probably the best lunch you will have for the entire cruise, make sure you are there early and have a camera ready. I thought it was even better than most dinners at night. By the way, the dress is casual.

One caution, with cut back and everything else, the food quality and quantity had gone down. Maybe my expectation was too high. For the lobster night, there was only half a tail, a few shrimps and scallops. It used to be 2 tails and then only one tail with shrimps.

With the cost of cruising staying almost the same as a few years ago, something got to give. So basically, you get what you paid for.

We sailed on Mercury December 2009. A portion of the Palm Springs Cafe is converted for casual dinner, complete with white tablecloths and waiter service ($2/person tip, I believe). In addition, the made-to-order stir fry and pasta stations are open for self-serve, and I believe there is a sandwich/panini station.

Celebrity also sets up an area around 6 pm for Sushi. They decorate a little just make it look like a Janpanese sushi bar.
