Celebrity - Mercury - Alaska with teenager!??!

Hi

Planning to do Alaska onboard Mercury - September. Will our 14 year old find much to do onboard? Celebrity website doesn't seem to feature childrens activities as much as other cruise lines!

Thanks.

We were on the Mercury last July to alaska. There were 180 kids on board and never saw them. They were busy with their activities, including a whole bunch of teens. They had 3 counselors only to take care of them. I believe they enjoyed a lot.

Emma, Celebrity is designed for a more adult crowd. They do have some programs for the kids, but we've never seen too many making use of them.

That said, if your son is into more adult hobbies--reading on deck, tours, conversation, etc., he might have a good time.

I think your 14 year old will be board unless she can entertain herself while you are not in port.

Some of the other cruise lines such as Princess have stronger teen programs.

Hi Emma,

Take Simone's advice. She was there with her child and knows first hand.

Paul

Carnival and NCL or Royal Caribbean or Princess would be better for teen, probably also in that order.
I remember when our children were teenagers we took them on several Carnival Cruises and they had a Ball.

We took Celebrity to Alaska in June with our 13 year old daughter. We went to the orientation meeting for the teen program. There were probably 15 or so teens there. Our daughter decided not to participate in any of the activities and had plenty of fun doing things with us and ordering room service pizza every afternoon!

Celebrity is geared for adults. Some would say geared for the aged, depending on the cruise.

If your son is into the adult activities, he'll do fine.

Once a child gets older he/she would rather hang out with new-found friends than join in the ship's program.

But do not knock Celebrity's children's program. Do not listen to others. Try it and see. It's great.

Paul
