Celebrity/Horizon

I'm considering a Southern Caribbean Christmas cruise on Celebrity's Horizon.
Any words of wisdom from past Horizon passengers would be greatly appreciated.

We were aboard the Horizon for a cruise to Bermuda a few years ago and it was wonderful. Just returned from Alaska on Saturday aboard Celebrity's Galaxy. Another wonderful experience. I don't think you can go wrong with Celebrity - we won't use any other line!

I, too, was on Horizon to Bermuda a few years ago. It's a lovely ship, and the food and service are terrific. Some friends of mine went in June, and they loved it, too.

My only complaint about the ship is that there are not enough deck chairs and none in the shade. On days at sea, passengers were fighting over the deck chairs. The ship will be very crowded at Christmas, and there will be a great many children on board. They will take over the pool area, I promise you. The only outside public space on the ship is the pool area, as there is no Promenade deck on this ship. If you like a lot of action and noise (loud music) and fun and games, you will love it. If not, I suggest you choose another ship.

going on the horizon 7 day repositioning San Juan to Aruba w/ stops in St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Grenada, Barbados and St. Lucia. Couldn't resist the killer deal (569/person outside with the third just port charges) But we are worried that it will be dull on board. It's a seven day trip..what will the crowd be like? We have been on the Zenith and it was a little snoozy although it was a 14 day panama trip. It would have been a disaster if we hadn't had the best dining companions in the world. btw, any suggestions for excursions?

Tom,
Where did you get that great rate on Horizon out of Aruba? We plan on going on the March 3rd cruise and were quoted $939 per person, Category 5 outside. Senior citizen rate for my parents is $799 per person. Nowhere near your rate. Thanks.

Yes those pool areas get busy on any full cruise. Been on the Horizon 2x (including the Legionaires disease cruise). It is a lovely ship and our favorite of all the lines. Looking for a place to sit?
Go out the doors at the aft of the ship 2-3 decks below the pool There are deck chairs and you'll have a view of the ship's wake. We usually try to book a room near there so we just can scoot in & out. Sure we miss the pool games etc, but we've seen enough of that already.
Dear Jane,

Everyone is correct, the Galaxy and the Horizon are equal in quality.

The food and service is great. The ships are well maintained.

The production shows are wonderful. Broadway type musicals.

The main pools are definitely crowded and noisy on all reasonable and mid-priced ships. It takes a little exploring to find quiet areas. They do exist no matter how crowded the ship is.

If you wish to find a lounge chair for one at the main pool you should not have a problem but if you wish to find lounge chairs for a family you will have to be there around 9AM the latest.

Do not let this small negative ruin your cruise.

Bon Voyage,

Paul
