Carnival Paradise no longer Non-Smoking

Just a heads up, as of Fall 2004 the Paradise will no longer be non-smoking and is moving to LA to do Baja Mexico cruises.

Guess their bar tabs were really low.

I'm sad to hear this. I don't smoke and sailed on her and we really enjoyed the trip. It was nice sitting in a smoke free casino and everything on the ship smelled fresh. I too heard that they were not making much profit on her as well.
They said that the non-smoking passengers drank less and spent a lot less in the casino.
Too bad, I support smokers having their places to smoke, but it was nice having this non-smoking option for the rest of us.

I would agree - we sailed on the Paradise in May of this year and would do so again, only if it was a non-smoking ship. I'm all for smokers having a right to smoke but I have a right as well not to participate in a smoke filled casino or Promonade deck, etc. Sorry to hear this....

I also sailed on the Paradise and loved it! It was great being able to go into a lounge without cutting through the smoke with a knife. I was going to cruise on it again when the time came.
How disappointing.

I too am very sad and disappointed to have read on the Carnival Cruise Line website that that globetrekker has stated! I am at a lose to understand why today, when, statistically, over 70% of the population do NOT smoke, that a cruise line cannot provide one NON-SMOKING cruise anywhere! I guess that it is ONLY the smokers who have the money to spend on a cruise! Personally, I do NOT understand how anyone can afford to smoke anymore, considering the fact that here in Ontario, Canada, a package of cigarettes now costs over $8! Does anyone know of ANY cruise line that has a NON-SMOKING cruise anywhere or at the least has NON-SMOKING staterooms on separate deck levels?

I believe most, if not all cruise lines have non-smoking rooms. I've been on the Inspiration and that was the case. The issue with smoking isn't necessarily in the cabins (one tends not to spend too much time there anyway), but on the Promenade Deck, in the casino, etc. If the weather is bad, you have no choice but to be inside. I remember sitting on the Promenade deck on the Inspiration and my wife and I could hardly breathe for all the cigarette and cigar smoke.

Oh well - I guess we'll have to 'settle' for vacations to the Caribe, strolls on the beach and non-smoking sections for meals. All the best and Happy Holidays to all.

"...that a cruise line cannot provide one NON-SMOKING cruise anywhere!"

That's the problem. You expect others to provide.

Band together, like any other special interest group, and charter a cruise ship for a cruise, and ask for it to be smoke free. The nudists can do it, and there are fewer nudists in the world.
