Carnival line

I was told by someone NOT to take Carnival in Alaska because its too much of a 24 hour party and drinking boat.
Since I am not much of a drinker, would this be a problem

Your someone is probably right. You would do better to stay home and watch National Geographic. Because people on the ship may be smoking too.

If lack of class and the WWF is your thing, you'll fit right in with the Carnival crowd. Other wide my previous poster is pretty much indicative of the nature of the people on this cruise line. Draw your own conclusions.

No one should come down on Carnival in Alaska until they sail. One can not surmise. There is no basis. You are also out-voted.

Paul

There is a lot of people that like the WWF. Doesn't mean I agree with them. So who cares if I'm out-voted. Carnival is still the cruise line of the masses. A lot of people thought Laverne and Shirley was a great show as well.

This is the most ridiculous bunch of Crap I have ever read.
The Carnival Spirit is a Beautiful ship. There is no more drinking on Carnival ships than any other. In fact, RCCL is the one that has 2 teens die of alcohol poisining. Princess had a teen jump off to his death.
Give me a break. If you do not know the facts, if you have not sailed on the ships in the last 5-10 years you know nothing.
The New Carnival is an entirely different product than the old Mardi Gras.
I am in my mid 50's and have sailed on Carnival as recently as September.

Bravo!

The new Spirit is bordering on elegant. The food is great including Joe's Stone Crab Restaurant, the NY Deli, the Asian counter, the Rotissere, the Grill and the Taste of the Nations. The Southbound itinerary is the best ever. The Naturalist is excellent. The entertainment is exciting. The design of the ship leaves no one lost getting to the dining rooms since all stairways and elevators go to the dining rooms. The only time I saw an excessive amount of children was during the "treasure hunt" and they had to be escorted by their parents.

One should not comment unless they have sailed.

Paul

I agree with Carnival Lover and Paul on this one. I've sailed on Carnival many times and their new Spirit is top notch. In my opinion Carnival now exceeds RCCL and is a great value when compared to the other lines. If you don't know what you're talking about, don't prove it by making comments like Scott and XXX. I've sailed on Carnival at least 10 times and have NEVER seen problems with drinking and party activity that is out of hand. Their security is very pro-active and reacts quickly to any problems.
On ALL the lines I've sailed I see the same two problems with people out of control, #1 children who are not properly supervised by their parents and #2 adults who think "I'm on vacation so lets get drunk". Again, Carnival and for that matter, all the lines control this small group of people who get out of line. Bob

uh Gentlemen, I have been on CCL. Do you think I just decided to make these statements up? I think not. Granted it was just a little over a year ago, but I can't see them making that much of a change. Their marketing and advertising hasn't changed a bit. You would think they would want to promote the fact that they no longer have that kind of client base. This IS the same company that did arrange a WWF cruise.

xxx,
I am sorry you were on a Sailing that had a unruly group. That does not mean it is the same on all Ships and Dates.
I had 30 year old neighbors who complained about RCCL because their was a group of 1200 Senior Citizens on board. It just happened the Senior Group and my neighbors sailed the same week. This is not typical and the Drunks you experienced are NOT typical of Carnival.
Maybe they did have a WWF Cruise, so what. They have a NASCAR Cruise this year, so what. My millionaire uncle likes NASCAR, I do not. I also do not like WWF, but would go for a Figure Skating, College Basketball or Football Cruise.
RCCL has had several Soul Music cruises, does that mean all their clients are African American? NO.

Just how much better are the new Carnival ships? Carnival gave us a 20% off letter to make up for the atrocious condition of our Cat 12 suite last year on the Triumph. 50% off wouldn't be enough to get me near that ship again. Are the newer ships a significant improvement? And maybe it's the Alaska crowd that's nicer -- the Triumph was red-neck city.

teenie,

Carnival is and has improved it's image with the newer ships. But there are others going to Alaska as well. I would check all of them out prior to committing to one, and committinn on the opinions of people you don't know.

Princess has a great Alaska cruise, as does several others. There is one Yacht company that has a terrific one, you cruise the shoreline during the day and stay on land at night. Being closer to the shore line you can see so much more.

Just my opinion thrown out here with everybody else's.

Diversity .....
There are passengers who hate Carnival. There are passengers who hate RCCL, Princess and even (gasp) Celebrity and Holland America.

Had a four cabin family that just returned from sailing the Carnival Triumph and 3 famlies loved the food and one absolutely hated it. Had to order steak every night. Stated the menu wasn't varied enough. That didn't make sense since there are 6 entrees, 6 appetizers, 3 soups, 2 salads, 6 desserts. Even the children's menu has 4 entrees. He stated before he cruised that his family were all "big" in stature. That could mean he is 7 feet tall or they weigh upwards of 300 pounds. Now he could not prefer gourmet food since he ordered steak every night. Otherwise, they all had a fabulous time. Does anyone have an answer for me?

Paul

all of this fuss over who is best.every on is entitled to have their own. If Paul offers ADVICE he is trying to be helpful, at least he is not posting messages that are just a waste of time by attacking each other. This board is here to HELP not be a B**** line for all to post on. OPINONS are just that and every one is allowed tohave one! Including Paul.

Yes but Paul has an inordinate amount of them. I would say it is fair to say that as high as twenty percent of the cruise line comments are from Paul. It just gets a little old. It would actually be nice to hear form other people without Paul interjecting.

Lisa. If Paul really offered ADVICE he probably would not get flamed as much as he does. He tends to chastise or berate anyone that disagrees with his ADVICE.

Advice is a noun generally meaning an opinion about what could or should be done in a situation or about a problem; counsel given.

Actually Paul, I was here to look up some information on cruise lines for an upcoming holiday. The last time I visited this web site months ago you were telling someone that they were 13 short of a dozen or something like that. That's an insult where I come from. So I guess pointing out people's short comings is part of "Customer Awareness". Although I do like Carnival. I have found that you are extremely biased towards them, and become personally defensive if someone mentions something negative towards this line. I would suggest you remain a little more objective in your commentary.

On a different note. I hear Carnival's food is far superior to what RCCL is offering these days. Is it because of diversity, quality, amount etc...?

Returned less then a month ago from a nice week on CCL Victory. My husband I do not drink, nor do we smoke. We did not notice any unruly behavior, nor did the ship seem "smokey". This is my 4th cruise with CCL, and I really do not have anything negative to say. I did notice more security on board this time.
Really seems to be a lot of critiscm on the forums...
