Haven't been on the dream but did go to St. Maarten three yrs. ago. It became my favorite Caribbean island BTW. We used the above gal for our tour. She provided a driver and we (5 people) had a small bus so it was very roomy. Prices are very reasonable and I can recommend her w/o hesitation. Have fun mon. :D

Tons of info here, and there is also a port forum.

I'd be more concerned about the particular line than the ship. We've been on a number of Carnival cruises and in our opinion they were better several years ago. The food has definitely been downgraded. The Dream is much like the other Carnival ships just bigger. Since it's relatively new, 2 years old, it should be in good shape. Our favorite line is Princess, but if you are booking on price Carnival will give you good value. As to St. Maarten, just like other Caribbean Islands, usually great weather, nice beaches, lots of water activities. After you have been to many of the Caribbean Islands they all start to look the same, which is a good thing in the Winter.

Actually all cruise lines have downgraded their offerings. Its just economics of the times.

"Actually all cruise lines have downgraded their offerings. Its just economics of the times."

When you are starting out from a low place it really shows.

BTW did you know CCL owns HAL, Princess, Cunard, Costa, Seabourn and a few others? We just got off the X Constellation, our 1st X cruise BTW. Our last CCL cruise was the triumph in 2009, NE/Canada. Service is better on X but the food fell short. CCL's was better. Also my wife special requested Indian food like we always do and this was by far the worst effort I have ever seen. One night he made a chicken biryani that was inedible for us and our table mates tried it and winced. I disagree in that CCL IMHO puts out a pretty good product. JM2C. Cheers, Larry

I do know they own those other lines. Much like GM with Chevy, Buick and Caddy. All very different products.

We just got off the Magic and the food was seriously downgraded from our 2008 and 2009 cruises. The buffet was particularly bad. I think you will be unpleasantly surprised on your next CCL cruise.

I did say that CCL gives good value but they seem to be booking strictly on price, considering they need to fill 2 new huge ships (Dream & Magic) with a 3rd on a way (Breeze) in a poor economic climate.

Hmmm. We'll see. Thanks for the heads up.

Okay, has anyone actually BEEN on Carnival Dream that could give a review?

You should try the cruise critic link provided for you. Just gotta click.

USVIGIRL: Why don't you tell us something about yourself. Have you cruised before? On what lines? Did you book by price or itinerary.

We've been on the Dream, it's nothing special if you have a basis of comparison. If you're a first time cruiser it will probably knock your socks off. As jacket said, check out cruisecritic.

Frank is right, of course. The more we know about you and your vacation preference, the more helpful we can be.

Good luck!
