Caribbean in August?

We want to plan a cruise for our 30th anniversary. I'd rather go to the Caribbean than Alaska, but we have been told the Caribbean is terribly hot and humid in August. Is it really that different in August than other times of year and would you suggest not going because of it? I know Alaska must be great, but I am looking for warm and sunny and we like snorkeling alot. Thanks for your comments.

Yes, the Caribbean can be quite hot and humid in August.

Have you considered Bermuda? We went there for our honeymoon and 25th anniversary. Because it's not as far south (off the coast of North carolina), it isn't as hot.

You can cruise there, but we stayed at an all-inclusive resort called the Harmony Club, which we liked very much.

End of August is not bad, my most sailed time to the Caribbean and fewer kids since some schools start early. BUT for scenery- there is NOTHING like Alaska and yes you will need layers but all ports are worthwhile (not so in my opinion of the Caribbean). Plenty of EXCELLENT touring options and temps can range 50- 75. You will never need a "winter coat and full winter gear". Knit hat and gloves and layers for glacier viewing but otherwise won't be needed. :)

Yes it is HOT and HUMID.

I have sailed in Dec and March and the weather is much better.

If you really want to do the Caribbean why not just go at a different time? You can still celebrate your Anniversary.

Late Aug. shouldn't be THAT bad, esp. for snorkeling. And there is usually a breeze. It depends on how well you tolerate those types of temps. If you roast when its lo 80's you may have a problem.

don't forget about the hurricane season being in full swing in August.

Hurricane season is from June 1 to Nov 30. And I don't care what time of year you go it is hot except maybe in Jan & Feb. I just came back from Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Roatan and Belize 11/22 to 11/29 and I thought I was going to have heatstroke. I live in Jupiter, FL and the weather is not much different from the Caribbean.
