Car rental near Miami Port?

My family will fly into Orlando and rent a car at the airport there. We will then spend a few days at Disney before driving the rental to Miami for a cruise. The question is where should I arrange to drop of the car in Miami? Are there car rental locations near the Port? Should I arrange drop-off at the Airport and then take a cab to the Port? We've never been to Florida before, so I don't have a clue! Any assistance would be much appreciated.
Hi Connie,

As far as I know there is no satellite office near the port. At one time the majors did have offices there but found them unprofitable since they had nothing to do during the middle of the week.

Paul

Thanks Paul. Would you suggest then that I return the car at the airport, or would downtown locations be closer?

I am also taking a cruise out of Miami, but flying in 2 days early to enjoy Miami. I contacted 2 rental car agencies (dollar & interamerican). Both said they have a shuttle that will take us to the pier after we drop the car off the morning of our cruise. The cost of the rental comes out cheaper for my 3 friends and myself than the transfer costs from the cruise line X4. Check with your car rental agency.

Forgot to add that the shuttle is INCLUDED in the cost of the rental. Not too shabby. :)

There is a car rental office right at the pier in Miami - Avis. Go to their website and you'll be able to tell if there would be a drop charge from Orlando. We rented on there and dropped in FLL with no charge.
Thanks for the info John. I did not know Avis came back again to the pier. I do not use Avis or Hertz - too expensive. Dollar or Alamo is less and they do give complimentary transportation to and from the pier.

Paul

Thanks for all the information. Yolanda or Paul, does the free shuttle to the pier offered by Dollar run from the airportlocation or another location?
Hi Connie,

Just call Dollar 1-800-800-4000 and ask them which drop-off location would be the best for you. I believe they only have one at the airport.

Paul
