Can Cabin Assignment Change Before Sailing?

According to Celebrity Online Registration , we have received our cabin assignment for Jan. sailing on Infinity. We have oceanview guarantee and were hoping for an upgrade but... I was a little surprised to see our assignment so soon. Does anyone know if this is final or could it change prior to sailing. How does one find out how full the ship is? Is it appropriate to "ask" for an upgrade on a category guarantee? Have never done this guarantee thing before - always chose our cabin.
Thanks.

Sherri
Not sure here cuz you are speaking of 2 different scenarios."Cabin Assignment" means you have for example Cabin Number 112 on Fiesta Deck, say."Guarantee" is just that...but no cabin assignment until you actually check in at the pier for debarkation. The Guarantee means that you are assured at least a certain category, say "AA" which is again say "Outside/Ocean View".And you pay for that Category accordingly. With a Guarantee, there is a better than good chance that you will in fact receive an upgrade at no cost to you.On some sailings, the cruise lines offer ONLY guarantees, and they guarantee some sort of upgrade.Like anything else in travel, you can always ask for an upgrade.Hope this helps.
Jason

Our last cruise (Princess) was booked with a category "guarantee". About 2-3 weeks before our sailing I checked our status online. They had assigned us a cabin number. When the pre-cruise documents arrived a few days later, the same cabin number was already printed on everything. We have again booked a guarantee with Princess for Thanksgiving week. So far their website just shows us as a category BB guarantee, but no actual cabin number. Seven weeks to go!

Thanks, Jason. What I mean is that we have a guarantee - exactly as you described - we have paid for a specific category and they must supply us a room anywhere on the ship but in that category. However with almost 4 months to go they have now assigned us a specific cabin number. It just seemed a bit early to have an assignment on a guarantee. I thought just as you indicated, we would get our specific cabin assignment shortly before sailing.

I booked a guarantee with Celebrity last year and the same thing happened. Within weeks of booking the cruise (months before departure) they had assigned a cabin. Nothing changed. This was the cabin I got. Enjoy your cruise.

Hi Sherri,

Once a cabin is assigned there is no additional upgrades.

You can always cancel and rebook another "guarantee" and hope for a better cabin assignment but it seems far-fetched to me.

Paul

Sherri I don't know about Celebrity but on other lines when I've booked I requested TBA. This stands for"to be assigned" and you are booking a minimum category with cabin to be assigned on the day of sailing. With any luck by sailing day all the minimum cabins have already been assigned and you must get upgraded,it almost always works for me.Check with Celebrity and if they accept TBA you may want to,as Paul noted, cancel and rebook with a request for "TBA".
