Cabins on Lindblad's National Geographic Explorer Antarctica
 

We will be traveling February 2011 on the National Geographic Explorer to Antarctica, Falklands, S. Georgia. We have the "lowest" possible category, Category I in the front of the ship....so we will feel the movement and we will only have a porthole - cabin 304. We can take a "mid/rear ship cabin #336 which has a full window. Does anyone have any experience with either of these or similar ca bins on the National Geographic Explorer?

We had a window on one cruise, a porthole on another (not on Explorer though). Porthole is almost the same as a window, only smaller and round instead of a square.

I would compare the cabins: size, location - is movement a problem? What is above, anything noisy? What is below? Anchor? Engine?

We sailed on this ship in cabin 305 in the Baltic last year. It wasn't rough so I can't speak to that aspect, but the porthole was fine. I'm sure a larger window would be great, but we didn't spend that much time in our cabins since there are other nice areas to read and chat with others on board. The cabin is a decent size with a desk and the bathroom is ok too. We've not sailed on a megaship so don't know how the cabins compare, but we like the experience on the expedition type trips. We'll look forward to sailing with you in February. We'll be in one of the same cabins. I'm sure it will be a great trip.
