On all of my past cruises i have just had a flask or just a simple plastic bottle and taking it out on the shore excursions with me.
I would never pay for water on holiday. |
I was recently on an 18 day repositioning cruise and by day 2 my feet, ankles and lower legs had become severely swollen. By day 3 it was so bad I couldn't see my ankles and I thought the skin was going to split. I also had a red rash on both lower legs. I went to the ship's MO and she said I had "cruise legs". She did not know what caused it but said it was not uncommon in both men and women. I thought of salt in the food but after two days I would not have had enough salt to cause this. I do not use salt in my cooking and have never suffered from swollen legs before.
It took a month before I could wear a shoe and seven weeks before my legs were back to normal. No one seems to know what causes this and I would like to take preventive action next time. I go on a cruise. Any suggestions? I walked the deck and stairs and did not over indulge in either coffee or alcohol. A night I slept with my legs up on my life jacket. happycruising |

An excellent safety tip from, Esc |
happycruising, I have had the same thing happen to me on all of our cruises and so has my sister-in-law. The Doctors have not been too worried about it but I sure didn't like it. Mine always went down at night and the redness got much better but would come back by each evening. At first I thought it was wearing high heels but it happened when I wore flats also. I also made sure I did eat anything that would have extra salt on it. This doesn't happen to me at home and my sister-in-law said it doesn't happen to her at home either, so must be something that some of us get from being on a ship. My husband has no problem.

I can't believe this 4 year old thread is still roaming around! Do they ever die? I see more of that on this website than any other. Why?
