Blue Grotto in Capri worth a visit?
We're taking a cruise around the Mediterranean and we have a few options on one day- the Amalfi coast, Pompeii, Sorrento, or Capri. We've been to Amalfi and loved it. Pompeii was cool, but we don't feel a need to go back. We've never been to Capri or Sorrento. We've heard about the Blue Grotto in Capri, but is it worth the trip or will we just be in a mob of tourists? Any general tips on choosing an excursion for our Naples-port day?
Thanks, Fodorites!

I've been To Capri several times and I love it. I've also been to the other places on your list and I would choose Capri if you've never been. What time of the year will you be there? . It was not particularly crowded in March when I was last there but I have never been in summer. I have never been to the Blue Grotto. The weather was never right for visiting when I was there

Absolutely!! It is really something that, in my opinion, you shouldn't miss. I have been to Naples, spent a week in sorrento and visited Capri for a day while in sorrento. I would absolutely recommend you go to Capri and do the blue grotto. Also, if you have time, ride the funicular up to the little town and catch the ski lift up to the top of anacapri- breathtaking!!!

For what it's worth I know a lot of people who love Capri but do not love the Blue Grotto, especially on cruise ship days when the cave is full of little boats. Here's what our writer says: "If you're pressed for time, however, skip this sometimes frustrating and disappointing excursion. You board one boat to get to the grotto, then transfer to a smaller boat that takes you inside. If there's a backup of boats waiting to get in, you'll be given precious little time to enjoy the gorgeous color of the water and its silvery reflections."
