Blue Grotto excursion
 

We are taking a cruise to the Mediterranean in June. Would like a tour of the Blue Grotto. The excursion offered through the cruise ship is very expensive. Are other tours available on our own? Are they reliable and safe?

hi there, you can take the hydrofoil to Capri and then there are many people there that will take you on tours of the Blue Grotto. If you can post somewhere like Cruise Critic you may be able to get a guide name or exaCtly where you can find them.

If you have your heart set on touring the Blue Grotto, ignore this post. But everyone I have ever heard comment on going there has felt it was a huge ripoff. You pay to get to Capri, then pay to get to the Grotto area, and pay once more to enter the Grotto for a brief period. When we were in Capri, we opted to go to Tiberius' villa and enjoy the town of Anacapri and views.

If you are prone to seasickness, rethink this excursion. We went out on a smallish boat and "bobbed" around until the waves permitted us to board very small rowboats--each holding a rower and 3-4 tourists. We had to bend over as far as we could from a sitting position to enter the small grotto opening. That part scared me. If you weren't low enough you would hit your head on the grotto wall (the boat is still bobbing up and down this whole time just waiting for the right timing to enter!) I don't get seasick,but several in our group did.

The view inside was spectacular, but we were only inside about 4-5 minutes. I sure would hate to get stuck in there if the opening should happen to close up with the unpredictable wave action.

I'm glad I did it, but if I ever went back I wouldn't take the excursion to the Blue Grotto.

I can't help you with reliable tour agents or prices because my excursion was included in my land tour package.

The area is beautiful and I especially enjoyed Sorrento.

Before going out of your way for the blue grotto, be sure to check the tidal forecast. I've been to Capri twice and I was never able to get into the grotto due to high tides. I hate to think you will go all the way over there just to be disappointed, so do find out first if it's even possible on the date and time you will be there.

I loved Capri, but the blue grotto isnt even a memorable thing for me. When I think of why I loved Capri - I dont even think of the blue grotto. I thought it was a rip-off with the cheesy gondola guys forcefully reminding you to "tip" them.
