Black Flies in June in Alaska cruse?

has anyone cruised to Alaska in mid-late June and run into black flies??? I have read mixed things on various websites. Would like to hear first-hand! Thanks!

oh, gosh, I'll be going in June... will a mosquito spray with deet work for them, or do I need something special?

You should not see bugs on the ship. I don't remember any black flies or mosquitoes on my trip this past summer, but then I wasn't in the "wooded" area. I went eagle and whale watching and a ride on the Yukon railroad / gold rush trail.

Went the first, second week of June and never saw one bug of any kind. Bring a small bug spray just in case but don't think you will need it.

My husband grew up in Alaska and lived there through college and beyond. He says your bigger worry should be mosquitos...and yes, you need bug spray.

He says Alaska has nightmarish mosquitos!
